34 RMC – 1961.

We believe this is a photo of one of, if not the, first Radio Mechanics courses to be held at Laverton, after Radschool was shifted from Ballarat. Unfortunately, we don’t have a record of who sent it to us, nor do we have the first names of the blokes in the photo. Can you help??

Standing L-R:  Lander, Beecham, Page, Jensen, Brown, Sayers, Hasset, Vlies, Burans, Taylor.

Seating L-R:  Norton, Currie, Lemke, Reddacliffe, Casas, Walker, Barnes, Saunders.

A 75-year-old man went to his doctor to get a sperm count. The Doc gave him a jar, sent him home and told him to bring back a semen sample the next day. The following day, the 75-year-old man returned to the doctor's office and gave him the jar which was as clean and empty as on the previous day. The doctor asked what happened, and the man explained, "Well, doc, it's like this... First I tried with my right hand, but nothing. Then I tried with my left hand, but still nothing. Then I asked my wife for help. She tried with her right hand, then her left, still nothing. She even tried with her mouth, first with the teeth in, then with her teeth out, and still nothing. We even called up Arlene, who lives next door and she tried too, first with both hands, then an armpit, and she even tried squeezing it between her knees, but still nothing." The doctor was shocked. "You asked your neighbour!!??"  The old man replied, "Yep, but no matter what all three of us tried, with our arthritis, we just couldn't get that damn jar open."

Radschool Staff 1986.

We believe this is a photo of Radschool Staff which was taken in 1986, but once again, we don’t have a record of who sent it to us, nor do we have many names. Peter Nelms says the bloke second in from the right in the front row is Bugs Rose.  Peter says he worked with him in SUPCOM in 83-84 and he seems to remember Bugs was a Ubon vet (Sabres).

Perhaps someone can help us with the rest??

38 RMC 1963

This course was a bit different to earlier Radio courses in as much as it split into two groups towards the end and some of the guys branched out into Telecommunication Training and the others went on to radar.  A similar thing happened to course 39 RMC. The Telecom Techs from these two groups combined some months later to form 3TTC. From memory Sgt Barry Ryan was our instructor and we were trained in a secure part of one of the aircraft hangers at Laverton. (I still remember the bit bucket)

Back row (L-R)  ?1 , Ken McDougall, Paul Egan, John Woolley, ?5 , ?6 , Kevin Cahill, Allan Martin.

Front row (L-R)  ?1 , Bruce Writer, ‘Tubby’ Hughson, Roger Davis, Paul Fairley, (Rev) Rod Kime,

Keith Russel

In one of your magazines, I read that someone was asking after a Don (Prof.) Carter, I think he may well be the ‘Professor’ from our 3TTC. Unfortunately I cannot find any photos of 3TTC.

I also noticed that you are looking for Kevin Cahill. You will notice that he is in my photo.  Kevin and I were on 38 Rad/Mechs, then 3TTC and we worked together at 3CRU at Williamtown RAAF Base. I have only recently made contact with him after all these years and mentioned that you were looking for him. He is living in SE Queensland.   Regards Roger Davis
